COUNCIL WORK
Orientation Maps
I created the gridded map in the town of Bushmills for tourists/visitors to guide them to the 14 tourist attractions throughout the town. The panels are located in five places; four outdoors and the fifth being placed in the interior of the Bushmills Tourist information office. This was created for The Bushmills Trust for their Brighter Bushmills Project phase 2, and it was a great to work alongside the team to bring this project to life.
Above: I created the brochure pictured here for the town of Bushmills. I like to think that i am efficient in creating bright, informative yet eyecatching brochures that are, above all, interesting to read, assuring that the brochure does its job. Alongside the brochure we put together a design for the brochure holders featuring the town’s clocktower and the well known Bushmills Whiskey Distillery chimneys.

The Ballintoy Archaeological and Historical Society The map depicts the groups dig site locations, complete with road signs and landmarks.
Cushendall tourist map. This map was designed to be part of an outdoor panel that local Bushmills photographer Art Ward was working on. Another great combination of Ward’s photography and my illustrations!
Ballycastle Crazy Golf. I was asked to produce a map of the North Coast for a project Ward was working on for a mini golf course in Ballycastle. One map was created, with alterations on the map made for each of the 18 holes on the course. Again this was a project that combined Ward’s
photography with my illustrations.
Probably one of the most important aspects to map making is making it versatile. First off, i find digitally created maps lifeless and uninspiring. I think most people do. Others may create hand painted maps, but often these come with the place names permanently written on them which means they can't easily be removed without completely altering the artwork. I meet you half way, combining great traditional art with easily changable/movable text. I combine traditional illustration with photoshop’s layering capabilities making a much more versatile map. Here's a word on our maps and why we hand draw them...
